(Very) Short story: Soft Callings

“I’m tired of being a forest nymph,” she tells the wise old tree. “You know, of being pretty, of the songs, of the long hair.”

The tree puts something in her heart. “Do you feel it now?”

She does. It weighs.

“Now find your sword. You owe your tale to live it.”
